In addition to providing crown abutments for existing tooth implants, Dr. Mazzella has been surgically placing dental implants since 2013 with fantastic results. A dental implant is the closest replacement to a natural teeth in terms of aesthetic and functional quality. A dental implant is comprised of three parts: the metal part placed surgically that integrates with your own bone, the metal abutment that screws into place, and the tooth-colored crown that is cemented to the abutment. In order for the implant to succeed, the implant placement requires healthy bone level, as well as time to integrate and get strong enough to support the implant, abutment, and crown.
If you are interested in dental implants as an option for your mouth, Dr. Mazzella would be happy to discuss this treatment with you.
In the case of a salvageable tooth with a break or crack extending below the bone level, a tooth may require a procedure called crown lengthening in order for a crown to fit over the tooth. This procedure is necessary both for the strength of the tooth, as well as a healthy gum margin around the crown that allows you to keep the tooth clean from plaque with proper home care, flossing and brushing. In these cases, the crown preparing, surgical lengthening, and final cementation of the permanent crown takes place over three appointments.
